Space missions often require space walks and out of space craft operations. These procedures
are realized with great caution and preventive measurements to maintain the astronauts within a close distance
from the spacecraft. The purpose of this design is to provide for an emergency situation in which the astronaut
starts drifting slowly and uncontrollably away from the ship. The Space Anchor can be used in a emergency rescue
in space operations. This artifact provides a practical, small, light, and simple safety alternative for an astronaut to hang on to the ship if a situation call for it. This unit design works as an easy reach handle that allows to shoot a magnetic piece attached to the shooting handle with a line. The magnet will serve like an anchor attaching itself to a ferromagnetic part of the ship, or can be reached by another unit serving as a rescue line. The physics behind the functionality of this artifact are very complex since it is deployed by hand. Factor like line deployment friction, deployment direction consistency, and how the throw may affect the astronauts orientation will be analyzed. On each of these situations, another testing will follow to test for possible solutions. |
